Jerzy Zemajtis said the ACI's Center of Excellence for Nonmetallic Building Materials (NEx) is the new kid on the block that aims to accelerate efforts in the construction world regarding non-metallic building materials.

"It's really about teaching and allowing information about the products and how to use the products it's used successfully," Zemajtis said when describing NEx's mission. He underscored that NEx is not a trade association.

Zemajtis said there isn't enough information out there when it comes to many products, and that's where his organization hopes to step in.

Zemajtis said there are a lot of unknowns but said he is open to the challenges that come with his role. He said the recent infrastructure spending bill will benefit the entire construction industry that could result in the use of more non-metallics, but his organization will continue reacting to the needs of contractors, homeowners, and specifying agencies when it comes to the use of non-metallic building materials.
