Contractors in Louisiana are the nation's hardest working, according to an analysis. Find out if you state is tops or not.

In Louisiana they have an average working week of 46.1 hours, according to October Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Builders in Texas followed closely behind, racking up 45 hours each week, this year.

Among the 41 states for which data was provided, the top 10 states where construction workers spent the longest time working also included North Dakota, Alabama, Wyoming, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and South Carolina.

Several Southern states including Louisiana and Texas have seen an influx of construction activity in recent years, much of which is expected to continue on into 2025.

Newsweek contacted the Department of Labor and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for comment via email.

In a survey conducted by Engineering News-Record (ENR), specialty contractors working in the states of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma, reported being particularly busy in 2023 and said that they amassed high levels of revenue.

Among the 50 firms who took part in the survey, electrical contractors recorded huge gains, with more than $2.5 billion in collective revenue reported in 2023. This marked a 69 percent increased from the previous year.
